Holmdel Mayor: Power Restoration Effort Thwarted Last Night

A huge swath of Holmdel was supposed to get power last night, but utility workers hit some kind of problem.

By interviewing line workers in utility trucks yesterday, Holmdel Mayor Patrick Impreveduto learned that a huge area of Holmdel -- from Crawfords Corner Road to the area west of Route 34 -- was supposed be back online yesterday.  But they encountered some kind of unexplained problem and the electricity was not restored, he said.  "It was supposed to be up and running last night," said the mayor today around 11 a.m. He said the trucks seen massing at Holmdel High School have been being dispatched to various locations in the township to repair damage from Hurricane Sandy, but if winds build in advance of the nor'easter to more than 40 mph, workers will have to withdraw.  The mayor put out a Code Red message to residents moments earlier, …

Mr. Smith, the point of my post was that people should stop blaming the mayor for JCP&L's incompetency. And the reform that I talk about are the changes that I'm sure Gov. Christie will put in place as the backbone of his campaign for Governor.   more ›

Holmdel Mayor Blows a Fuse After A Week Without Power For Most of Township

At a public meeting Sunday, Mayor Patrick Impreveduto told neighbors he wants their support when he lodges complaints with the Board of Public Utilities.

In a brief, heated meeting at the Holmdel Community Center Sunday afternoon, Mayor Patrick Impreveduto loudly voiced his frustration to more than 100 bundled-up residents about being disconnected from the grid in greater Holmdel He had to bellow because there was no electricity to power a microphone. There weren't any lights in the dark hall either. For Holmdel residents, especially those who depended on electricity to pump well water, the whole sorry situation was not acceptable. And all his complaints after the same thing last year, after Hurricane Irene, seemed to have made no difference, he said.   "I am one mayor in a small town in JCPL's scope," he said. "I got the biggest mouth, but it isn't doing me any good."  On Sunday the mayor …

I totally agree with you. The Mayor has done a great job controlling the part of this crisis that he can. Alleviating the gas situation has done a lot to make the situation that much more bearable. Thank you, Mayor Impreveduto and the folks at town hall making this happen.   more ›

Holmdel Mayor Impreveduto's Letter To Residents

Posted Oct. 31 on township website: Town Hall is closed; electronics charging station set up at Centerville Road First Aid building; list of stores and gas stations.

Dear Resident: Local recovery efforts are continuing. With few exceptions, Township roads are cleared, and we are working with the County to clear their roads. Extensive power outages remain, and JCP&L does not yet have a firm estimate for restoration. Residents should be aware that the area remains hazardous due to downed lines, inoperative traffic signals, and potential additional tree falls. Effective October 31st, Town Hall is closed until further notice except for limited emergency staffing. The community center is closed. A County-wide curfew is in effect from the hours of 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. If you have a life-threatening emergency please call 911. For power outages JCP&L MUST hear from you directly, please call 1 888 544-4877 or go…

UPDATE: Holmdel Declares "Local Disaster Emergency" Ahead of Storm

Emergency services "preparing for the worst" said Mayor Patrick Impreveduto.

On Sunday, Holmdel Mayor Patrick Impreveduto said everything is in place for the township to deal as best it can with the potential mayhem of Hurricane Irene.  A water truck to dispense non-potable water is stationed at Cross Farm Park. Volunteer Fire and EMS workers are scheduled on round-the-clock shifts, at multiple locations. Barricades are stored at certain flood-prone roads, like sections of Middletown Road, Crawfords Corner Road and Middle Road in case they are quickly needed to divert traffic from dangerous areas. Cots are set up at Town Hall so on-duty Police and Town Hall staff can work through the storm and keep their families close, if desired.  In a message to residents today, he asked citizens to refrain from calling police …

Still No Plan for Huge Alcatel-Lucent Property

After a Florida buyer entered into contract with Alcatel-Lucent, people in Holmdel became hopeful an important ratable and employer would be revived. But so far, there is nothing to report, says a township official.

Holmdel Township officials are speaking several times a week with a contract buyer about plans for the important vacant Alcatel-Lucent property in the heart of the town. But there still is "nothing definitive to announce," said Holmdel Township Deputy Mayor Eric Hinds, who is serving as the acting mayor during Mayor Patrick Impreveduto's summer vacation.  "Nothing has changed. Elsie [Sterling Howard] is actively engaging in coversations -- with the town, with Lucent  -- but there's no plan in motion. As of 11 a.m. today [Tuesday], there is nothing definitive to announce, about anything," said Hinds, Tuesday evening.  Two members of the five-member Township Committee, Hinds and Impreveduto, are tasked with representing Holmdel Township on …

Alcatel-Lucent's stock hit $1.01 per share today, the lowest price since the company was formed. They announced a 5,000 person layoff. Burning cash at an unsustainable rate. The point is, there is a real potential here for BANKRUPTCY. That could tie up the property for 10 years? This situation should be closely monitored by people who are well versed in financial matters, not politicians. If …   more ›

Letter: Holmdel Mayor Updates Residents on Initiatives

In a postal mailing going out next week, Holmdel Mayor Patrick Impreveduto talks about paying down debt, encouraging business, and developing recreation for seniors.

Dear Holmdel Resident, Now that the FY 2012 budget has passed, I would like to talk about the challenges the Township Committee and I faced during its development and our plan to maintain sound fiscal management going forward.   For the five years previous to this one, we were able to keep spending relatively flat through a number of initiatives: sharing services, consolidation of departments, workforce reductions, and working with employee unions to have benefits and pay reflect the difficult economic times we are in. Despite a reduction in state aid, and increases in costs like health insurance, utilities and pension contributions we were able to maintain one of the lowest tax rates in Monmouth County.   This year’s budget reflects a …

Bocce Courts Planned for Ackerson Park

The courts are especially for Holmdel's seniors, said Mayor Patrick Impreveduto.

The Holmdel Township Committee is planning to make Ackerson Park a gathering place for Holmdel seniors, starting with a bocce court.  At its last meeting, the Committee approved a $8,725 contract to Ed Stillwell of Holmdel to construct a 60 foot wide x 100 foot long bocce court from solid timber. According to Township Engineer Ed Broberg, who sought advice from Hazlet Township and other towns on how to build proper courts for the European bowling game, the next closest bid was for $12,000.  "We want to do something more for our seniors," said Mayor Patrick Impreveduto. "We decided Ackerson Park will be a wonderful venue to host a bocce court in a section of that park."  The partially developed park is on the land once owned by Jim Ackerson…
