No one was injured in the Thursday blaze, police say. The cause was accidental.
Several local fire departments responded to a two-alarm fire Thursday afternoon at 5 Crowfield Lane in Holmdel that left a house with moderate damage. Nobody was injured in the blaze at the home of Christopher and Sandra McGreevy, which was reported to police at 2:42 p.m. The house sustained some damage when flames spread from a first floor bathroom under renovation up to the attic, licking the roof outside. The former township fire department chief's vehicle will be put back on the road.
Since Tom Savage resigned from the unpaid position of Holmdel Township Fire Department Chief last August and was not replaced, the township-owned Ford Expedition has been sitting in a parking lot. So when the Holmdel First Aid Squad began looking to replace a problematic 2003 Chevy Tahoe for their squadron chief, they checked it out, and spoke with Savage, who continues his service with Fire Company #2. "This 2008 vehicle has more safety features, more room and will hopefully not be in the shop as much," he said They learned the heavy duty vehicle was in excellent condition with only 21,982 miles on it. The Kelly Blue Book value was $22,712 without its all its special first responder enhancements. The First Aid offered the township $20,000…

Thank you, to all of the men and women who volunteer to keep us safe here in Holmdel. We needed the fire department and first aid to come to our house once. We couldn't believe how fast they responded! They were also very efficient and kind. We may be a small town but our fire department is first class! We have donated with a sense of pleasure and pride to their fund raising drives every year …   more ›
