Former Committeeman Brady and former Mayor Tinker were given plaques at a recent committee meeting.
Former Hazlet Mayor David Tinker and former Committeeman James Brady were recognized for their service and dedication to the Hazlet community at the Township Committee's Jan. 14 meeting. Mayor Joseph Belasco presented both men with a plaque, reflecting on his time working side-by-side with them. "There's a history here, with the mayor and myself," Belasco said with a laugh, referring to former Mayor Tinker. "We've had a couple of battles. I won the first one, he won the second one but through those battles I think we became good friends. We were lucky to have him." Tinker was elected to the Township Committee in 2009 and is expected to continue to serve the township on the Relay For Life Committee, which he has been closely tied to in …

Township Committee votes to spend $16,900 to pick up 940 tons of rubble left behind by contractors during an emergency sewage pipe repair.
The Hazlet Township Public Works Dept. will begin picking up an estimated 940 tons of debris that was dumped in Natco Lake Park in October 2011, when a contractor laid down a temporary road on swampy ground so that trucks could access a backed-up sewage pipe during a public health emergency. The half-mile trail of construction debris in a section of the 260-acre Green Acres site off Union Avenue includes chunks of concrete, bits of brick, and tile, said Township Administrator Brian Valentino. Hazlet expects to pay about $16,900 to a yet-unnamed private disposal company to take it. "Whichever company gives the best price on tonnage," said municipal attorney James Gorman. He explained the contract does not have to be put out to public bid …

Township Committee says contractor has left the job, putting its federal grant at risk.
Hazlet Township says it will begin the default process against A Montone Construction (AMC) of Cliffwood, which it says has walked away from a nearly finished sidewalk installation project near the Beers Street School. The project to install 2,400 linear feet of sidewalks along Bedle Road, Peach Drive, and Knoll Terrace to Holmdel Road apparently came to a halt about a month ago. Orange cones are clustered on the side of the road, and workers haven't been seen in weeks. "The biggest problem now is that I can’t close the project out in order to get funding from DOT," said Deputy Mayor Michael Sachs, the liaison to the Dept. of Public Works. "The contractor has refused to come back to finish the project." The Township Committee said its …

Plan to rezone property is rejected by governing body, citing concerns from the neighborhood.
A township plan to market the site of its now-defunct Sewerage Authority near Cove Road School by rezoning the parcel to commercial use and attempting to sell the building and parking lot to the highest bidder, has been halted. At the Township Committee meeting Tuesday, Mayor David Tinker looked out at the large number of concerned residents and announced he was making a motion to reject the proposed zoning change. It was quickly seconded by Deputy Mayor Michael Sachs. "I'd like to let the residents know we heard you," said Tinker, to the energetic applause from residents who had previously said they feared the rezoning of the parcel would lead to a drop in property values and an unsafe increase in traffic. "Probably somewhere in the …

Wishful thinking about the new admin not creating jobs for their cronies and contributors. Mary54 it was only a few short years ago that the engineering firm CME held EVERY single one of the engineering jobs in Hazlet. Why? you may ask. Well that was because they were one of the biggest contributors to the Democrats. Its true. Same story just different party and firm. NOW that being said I hope …   more ›
