She gave this school district report at board's Monday, May 20 meeting.  First off, Raritan High School’s staff and students showed us their hidden talents at The Talent Show on May 8. With so much competition it was tough to decide a winner, however, we would like to congratulate Brianna Payne for winning this year’s talent show and thank everyone who participated! Hazlet School District to Host Parents' Forum on Dealing with Traumatic Loss

In the wake of the unexpected death of an eighth grader at Hazlet Middle School, the district will be hosting a family wellness forum.

Hazlet parents are encouraged to attend a family wellness forum Tuesday night that will discuss how to promote healing and resiliency in the aftermath of a traumatic loss, whether it be due to accident, illness, suicide or homicide, according to a post on the district's Facebook page. The forum, sponsored by the Hazlet Township Public School District and the Traumatic Loss Coalition for Youth, will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on May 14 in the Holy Family School Auditorium on Stone Road in Hazlet.  The Monmouth County Coordinator for the Traumatic Loss Coalition, George Scott, EdS, LMFT, will lead the forum.  Topics to be discussed will include stress factors for children, how to recognize depression in children and some of the risk …

How Did Holmdel and Hazlet Schools Fare on State Performance Results?

NJ DOE releases School Performance Reports focused on college and career readiness.

The Department of Education released new School Performance Reports for all schools in the state for the 2012-13 school year last week. The reports include new data on college and career readiness and provide comparison to “peer schools” in order to provide a more complete picture of school performance for educators and the general public. In addition, the Department released the 2013 Taxpayers’ Guide to Education Spending to help New Jersey residents and interested citizens learn how their tax dollars are spent in their schools. Steve, I think we may simply differ in opinion. I believe not meeting any state target is worth highlighting, and of course further analyzing by explaining what that target means and how it is met, which we did. Hazlet Offering Counseling to Students After Classmate's Death

Hazlet Township Superintendent Bernard Bragen issued this release regarding the death of a middle school student Tuesday night.

The following is a statement by Hazlet Township Superintendent Bernard Bragen:  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of one of our middle school students affected by a recent tragedy. At this most difficult time, our students and families continue to remain our number one priority. The primary focus of the Hazlet Township School District is to ensure that we are proactive in providing the necessary services needed for our students’ well-being. Approved Hazlet School Budget Includes 1.6-Cent Tax Increase

School officials outlined the capital projects and district-wide improvements the budget will support.

Hazlet residents will see a slight increase in their school taxes with the Board of Education's approval of a budget with a 1.6 cent increase to the tax rate at their March 21 meeting. The $49,980,443 total general budget tentatively approved for the 2013-14 academic year is about a $1.6 million increase from the 2012-13 total general budget of $48,324,762. The total general budget includes a $1,550,000 contribution from the district's capital reserve account. The operating budget, which is a portion of the total general budget that covers the day-to-day costs of running a school district, increased by $210,963, or 0.44 percent, according to Business Administrator Christopher Mullins.  Impact on Tax Payers The increase in the budget …
