Crime statistics in both townships compared February 2013 to February 2012.
Crime is down in 2013 in Holmdel and Hazlet, when compared to the same time last year. The New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Reporting Unit has taken a significant step forward in reporting crime throughout the state. A link was placed on the public web site that connects users to very recent and comparative crime data for municipalities and counties. The data is updated every week, or as often as municipalities provide fresh numbers. Data is compared to the same month of the previous year. In Holmdel Compared to 2012, February crime is down overall in Holmdel by 32 percent. There was one simple assault reported in February of this year, compared to three in 2012. Tim Moran and Brian Moore allegedly shoplifted from both stores on three consecutive days.
Two were indicted last week for allegedly shoplifting from the Holmdel A&P and Hazlet Pathmark on several occasions last year. Tim Moran, 26 of Bernardsville and Brian Moore, 26 of Belleville allegedly shoplifted from both stores on three consecutive days. The two allegedly stole from A&P twice, and Pathmark once. According to county records, Moran and Moore were also indicted for stealing from a Tinton Falls A&P on May 13 of last year.

Steven DiTomasso was arrested on May 20 after attempting to "cause bodily harm" to two Hazlet police officers, according to county records.
Correction: The headline of this article originally identified the indicted man as a Hazlet man. He is a Parlin resident. Steven DiTomasso, 51, of Parlin was indicted last week for allegedly resisting arrest in Hazlet and two counts of allegedly assaulting an officer. DiTomasso was arrested on May 20 after attempting to "cause bodily harm" to two Hazlet police officers, according to county records. DiTomasso is listed online as a New York Port Authority officer. The county indictment does not detail why DiTomasso encountered Hazlet Police on May 20. An indictment is not a finding of guilt or a conviction, and all defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.

Victim's injuries said to be non life-threatening; Police and First Aid from four towns converge at scene at 3:31 a.m. on New Year's Eve morning.
Updated Dec. 31, 10 p.m. A man suffered a stab wound to the abdomen while at a large party in West Keansburg in the early hours of Dec. 31, said Hazlet Police Chief James Broderick. The victim was treated at the scene by Hazlet First Aid, and taken by helicopter to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. The victim's injury was reportedly non life-threatening, said Chief Broderick. NJ Spotlight has created an interactive map using the recently released 2011 Uniform Crime Report that plots the total crime rate per 1,000 people for seven index crimes (four violent -- murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault -- and three non-violent -- burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft). As required by statute, all law enforcement agencies in the state submit monthly and annual summary crime reports to the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, under the NJ State Police. Information about 2012 will be released in December 2013. Holmdel Township's total crime index remained flat, at 294. There were 33 burglaries reported in 2011, up from 27 in 2010. There were three traffic accidents within two hours on Dec. 24, one of them fatal for a young man from Middletown.
Hazlet Township Police Chief James Broderick has released details about the three motor vehicle accidents that occurred on a one-mile stretch of Route 35 in Hazlet Township on Christmas Eve morning, which caused traffic delays and brief power outages in the area. A Hazlet woman admitted to making up a story about a man breaking into her Poole Ave. house on Wednesday, police say.
A Hazlet Township woman who told police she had been the victim of an alarming home invasion and assault Wednesday night has admitted to making up the story, police say. Amanda Rembisz, 34, of Poole Avenue was charged Friday night with making a false report to law enforcement, according to Hazlet Police Chief James Broderick. She has been released pending a court hearing. A sharp-eyed citizen called in what appeared to be a break-in, in progress, and police responded quickly.
Around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Middletown Police received a 911 call from a citizen who reported seeing a man attempting to break into a house on Baldwin Avenue in North Middletown. Middletown Ptl. Richard Raike and Cpl. Thomas Meckier got to the neighborhood off Route 36, caught sight of the suspect and chased after him on foot. They collared the alleged burglar, 31-year old Julio Ponce of Delawanna Avenue in Clifton, in a backyard on Joycee Court, with the assistance of Midletown Cpl. Police are warning merchants about a man suspected of shoplifting in local businesses.
Hazlet Police are warning area shop owners to be on the lookout for a man who has been suspected of shoplifting in two Airport Plaza businesses. The man was seen on videotape allegedly taking merchandise, and then later returning it for $100. In the other case, employees saw him acting suspiciously and chased him out of the store. The man, shown in the photo from surveillance video, is 400 lbs and 6'4". He has also been spotted by police in a similar case in northwest New Jersey. Police have not released his identity. In June, Abraham Feliciano was arrested by Hazlet PD, and charged with trespassing and carrying burglary tools.
A Keansburg man who was found wandering into a Virginia Avenue backyard on June 18 with a backpack holding a pocketknife, crowbar, screwdriver and gloves was indicted by a Monmouth County Grand Jury on one count of attempted burglary today. The jury's decision formalizes charges against Abraham Feliciano, 31, of Church Street in Keansburg. Attempted burglary is a third degree crime. If convicted on the charge, Feliciano could face a 3-5 year jail term. Feliciano's arrest by Hazlet Police came after a spate of residential burglaries in the neighborhood, and in nearby sections, where homeowners reported jewelry and cash thefts from master bedrooms. I agree with Holmdel girl. They should reveal the fact that Steven has been on the force for years and also worked at ground zero. Mr .Ditomasso hasan absolute flawless record as an officer and is in no way at fault. Also it should be revealed Officer DiTomasso is still to this day being provoked by his neighbor ( also a police officer) who escalated this whole situation. Hopefully this incident … more ›
