Raritan High School senior Leann Coppola is a student representative to the Board of Education. She gave this schools roundup report at Lillian Drive School on Monday, April 22. This was her last report before Bianca Lucarini takes the reigns.   Good evening everyone, to start off I would like to announce that this will be my last meeting as Student Representative. Though I am very sad that this amazing opportunity is coming to an end, I would like to thank the Board of Ed., all of the principals, teachers and staff in our district for their support over the past year. A Taxpayer's Guide to the Hazlet Public Schools Budget

Administrative costs totaled $1,585 per student, and legal services totaled $19 per student. Supplies and classroom textbooks totaled $426 per student.

The Hazlet Board of Education budgeted $13,588 per student for the current school year, according to the NJ Department of Education. The guide breaks down the amount by category, including classroom instruction, supplies, benefits and salaries. The Hazlet district budgeted $8,181 per student for classroom instruction, and $1,662 per student for support services. Support services includes areas which supplement daily classroom instruction, including "attendance, social work, health and guidance services, educational media/school library services and the child study team," according to the NJ Department of Education. The district budgeted $1,470 per student on salaries and benefits for teachers, a $144 increase from the previous budget. …

Sending a child to a Parochial school cost MUCH less and one can get a much better education. More children from Parochial schools go on to college than the public school system. The Parochial school has a 98% rate of students going on to higher education. The reason public schools cost so much per student is the salaries we have to pay teachers and administrators. Approved Hazlet School Budget Includes 1.6-Cent Tax Increase

School officials outlined the capital projects and district-wide improvements the budget will support.

Hazlet residents will see a slight increase in their school taxes with the Board of Education's approval of a budget with a 1.6 cent increase to the tax rate at their March 21 meeting. The $49,980,443 total general budget tentatively approved for the 2013-14 academic year is about a $1.6 million increase from the 2012-13 total general budget of $48,324,762. The total general budget includes a $1,550,000 contribution from the district's capital reserve account. The operating budget, which is a portion of the total general budget that covers the day-to-day costs of running a school district, increased by $210,963, or 0.44 percent, according to Business Administrator Christopher Mullins.  Impact on Tax Payers The increase in the budget …

If you have an opinion or questions on the approximately $49.9 million budget proposed for the 2013-14 academic year, the Hazlet Board of Education's public hearing Thursday will be your opportunity to speak up. The March 21 hearing will begin at 7 p.m. at Raritan High School on Middle Road in Hazlet. We had a re evaluation of our property and most of us had our homes value come down quite a lot. Thought it would bring my property taxed DOWN! So here comes the school taxes again , showing their greedy heads again. If it were not for the high school taxes, things would be easier. I don't understand why we need an increase at all. When I was a child and went to school in Hazlet we actually went on class trips every year, school supplied us with supplies, i.e. scissors, crayons, paper, pencil and books. She gave this schools roundup report at Lillian Drive School on Monday, Jan. 28.  Good evening everyone! I hope you are all staying warm as winter's cold weather has truly come out this past week. Though the weather is extremely cold, our schools are keeping warm with the many activities they have planned. Sycamore Drive Early Childhood Learning Center's Barnes and Noble Night was Jan. 29. Sycamore's Kindergarten Registration will be held on Feb. 11 through Feb. 15. On Feb. 14, Sycamore Drive would like all students and staff to wear Red for Valentine's Day. Also to celebrate Valentine's Day, Sycamore Drive will be holding their Someone Special …

Hazlet School District Teachers & Employees Honored for Stellar Attendance Records

Ninety-nine teachers and employees were recognized for their perfect attendance records during the 2011-12 year.

Nearly 100 members of the Hazlet School District were honored for a healthy and dedicated year at the Board of Education meeting Jan. 7. Each was individually called up at the meeting to receive a plaque for having perfect attendance during the 2011-12 school year. Hazlet School District Hires New Special Services Secretary

The new hire is expected to begin on Jan. 22.

The Hazlet Township School District Board of Education approved the hire of Teresa Barr as the new special services secretary during an executive session held on Jan. 7. Barr will earn an annual salary of $18,707.11, according to Superintendent Bernard Bragen.  She will work under the Director of Special Services and will complete office duties such as data entry and filing, as well as compile data for state and federal reports, Bragen explained. Barr is expected to begin on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Hazlet Board of Education Selects 2013 President, Vice President

The board of education recently held their annual reorganization meeting.

The Hazlet Board of Education elected their president and vice president at their annual reorganization meeting Jan. 7 at Raritan High School. Stephen Willig, who was also sworn in for his third term at the meeting, was re-elected president by the board for 2013.  William Kolibas was elected as vice president.  The board also re-appointed Christopher Mullins as the board secretary for the 2013-14 school year.  The next meeting of the board of education will be held on Monday, Jan. 28 at Middle Road School.

Hazlet Board of Education Swears in Two Incumbents, One New Member

The board of education held their annual reorganization meeting Monday, Jan. 7 at Raritan High School.

Two familiar faces and one new member were sworn into the Hazlet Township Board of Education during the reorganization meeting at Raritan High School Monday night.  Frances McGrath, Stephen Willig and Natale Iannello stood side by side as they simultaneously took the oath of office.  This marks the beginning of a fourth term for McGrath, the beginning of a third term for Willig and the beginning of a first term for Iannello.  When asked about his long tenure on the board, McGrath noted that he enjoys working to improve the district. "It's nice when you can help out and try to see that the schools are going in the right direction," he said.  Willig likes watching new ideas grow into successful initiatives while keeping the taxpayers in mind…
