New Year's Day Hikes In Holmdel, Long Branch and More

An invigorating way to welcome 2013, and reconnect with nature.

  The Friends of Holmdel Open Space (FOHOS) will guide a leisurely walk through the beautiful Ramanessin Section of Holmdel Park on New Year's Day from 10-11:30 a.m.   The group will meet at the Ramanessin Trail Access parking area on Roberts Road (across from the Holmdel Park arboretum on Longstreet Road). The walk, to be led by outgoing Holmdel Township Committeeman Larry Fink, is rated “easy to moderate” and will follow scenic farm and forest trails. Families are welcome.  It will be held rain, snow, or shine. For more information, call 732-946-3656. Elsewhere around New Jersey, the state Park Service will conduct guided hikes and other special outdoors activities at 10 locations on New Year’s Day as part of America’s State Parks First …

New Leadership for Friends of Holmdel Open Space (FOHOS)

The presidency passes from Bill Cahill to Janet Jackel.

Friends of Holmdel Open Space is a Holmdel-based group that strives to acquire land for preservation, and act as stewards to the land. At the April 25 meeting, their longtime leader Bill Cahill passed the presidency to Janet Jackel. Cahill will continue to serve, but as vice-president with Richard Scotto-Lavino, also vice-president. The secretary is Mary Frances Nakagama and treasurer is Tom Spang. "I have been on the FOHOS board for about five years, and have been involved with Holmdel land use issues for a bit more than 10 years," said Jackel, adding that Cahill will still be in a leadership role as vice president.  "He’s been terrific, and I hope that I can keep up the good work," she said.
