Hazlet Police Blotter: Oct. 23 - Nov. 8

As Hurricane Sandy made landfall on Monday evening, Oct. 29 and police tried to help people in the havoc, some saw an opportunity to burglarize.

During Hurricane Sandy, Hazlet Police risked their own lives working patrol in cars at risk of being struck by falling tree limbs. During the storm, they worked double shifts monitoring long gas lines at stations like Quick Chek, Racestar and Exxon, blocked traffic from downed trees and power lines in the road, helped people out of flooded homes, controlled intersections, and chased out of town generator salesmen without permits from selling in in retail center parking lots.  And if that wasn't enough, here's what else that kept them busy. UPDATE: Gas Station Theft Suspect Arrested Again, at Best Market

On Tuesday, David Koch of Middletown was arrested at Best Market for stealing a wallet -- just after being arrested for a second time on charges he took money from the cash register at the Palmer Ave. Exxon on Saturday.

This report was updated on Wednesday, March 28. Gas station theft suspect David Koch, 23, of Middletown was arrested again in Holmdel Township, this time for allegedly stealing a wallet with cash and credit cards from an employee break room at Best Market in the Holmdel Commons. On Tuesday, Holmdel Police arrested Koch and charged him with theft after they said he lifted a wallet with cash and credit cards from an employee break room at the supermarket on March 20, where he was employed.  The incident was reported to police by the victim who came to police headquarters. Holmdel Ptl. Michael Dowens and Det. Eric Hernando identified Koch through the store's video surveilance system. Koch was arrested and charged with a disorderly persons …

Holmdel PD Arrest Three Men in Connection With Burglary at Exxon

Police get a big clue when the find a broken down car on Palmer Avenue with cigarette cartons and a crowbar inside.

Holmdel Police say three men who allegedly broke into the Exxon Gas Station at Route 35 and Palmer Avenue in Holmdel on April 22 damaged the store and stole cash, lottery tickets and cigarettes.  Robert Vallaster Jr., 25, and Joshua Vallaster, 23, brothers who both reside at 640 Palmer Avenue; and David Koch, 22, of 864 Palmer Avenue, were arrested and charged by Holmdel Police for burglary, theft, and criminal mischief. All three reside in Middletown, just down the road from the gas station, which is located at 2055 Route 35 on the Holmdel side of the avenue.  The station is near Target.  Police said they were called to the Exxon at 5:15 a.m. on April 22 after manager Adel Halaka arrived for work and discovered a heavy metal side door had…
