Diocese: Fugee Had No Permission to Work With Youth Ministry

A statement from the Diocese of Trenton said Fugee was not allowed to work with children.

The Bishop of Trenton has officially accepted the resignation of Fr. Thomas Triggs, after an investigative story revealed a convicted sex-offender had been working with the St. Mary's Youth Ministry in Colts Neck. The Star Ledger reported on Sunday that Triggs announced his resignation during  Saturday evening mass, following public outcry regarding Rev. Michael Fugee who had been working in the church youth ministry despite a court order to refrain from working with minors. A statement from the Diocese of Trenton said "it was first made aware of the presence of Father Michael Fugee at a youth retreat held in St. Mary Parish through an inquiry from the media on April 23, 2013." Catholic Schools Week Celebrations Begin Monday

Events to be held throughout Monmouth and Ocean

Catholic elementary and high schools across the country will be recognized as part of Catholic Schools Week and several local groups will be taking part in their own activities.  The theme for this year is "Catholic Schools Raise the Standards," according to a press release from the Diocese of Trenton. The goal of Catholic Schools Week is to "promote the academic excellence and Catholic identity of Catholic schools in the US," the release added.  George V. Corwell, the Director of the Office of Education for the New Jersey Catholic Conference said he was glad that a proclamation from Gov. Chris Christie recognized the importance of the week.
