In Hazlet, Democrats Win Majority Control Of Governing Body

Hazlet Democratic Party challengers Barbara Ronchetti and Jim DiNardo unseat Mayor David Tinker and Committeeman Jim Brady.

The mood was triumphant at the victory party held by Hazlet Democrats at Assaginni di Roma on election night.  Former Recreation Director Barbara Ronchetti, and former Pop Warner organizer Jim DiNardo were toasted by supporters for winning their campaigns. Together with Committeeman Joseph Belasco, the Democrats will now have the majority on the split board. The other two members are Republican Party members Michael Sachs and Scott Aagre.  DiNardo, with 4,529 votes and Ronchetti, with 4,340 votes, beat Republican Tinker, with 3,960 votes and Brady, with 3,861.  Ronchetti was happy to announce the Democrat's new plans. Hazlet Summer Camp Begins: A Cool Dip in the Pool, Playtime in the Woods

For 346 kids in Hazlet, it just ain't summer until camp begins.

On the first day of Hazlet Summer Camp Monday, a gaggle of girls gathered around a picnic table and sprinkled sparkly dust on popsicle houses and sailboats. Nearby, some boys slapped playing cards on the table in a ruthless game of War. And out in a forest clearing, boys gathered excitedly for the beloved daily rite of dodgeball.  On this 87 degree day these kids had refuge in the shady woods on Hazlet's Green Acres property. But still, 11-year old Jamie Connell was dying to get to the best part of camp. "I want to go to the pool!" she said.  For many of the 346 kids enrolled at six-week outdoor camp -- as well as the 16 counselors in training -- the daily 45-minute swim at the Hazlet Swim Club next door is a major highlight of the 9 a.m. …
