New Leadership Elected on Holmdel School Board

Ana Vander Woude was elected President of the Board of Education.

New leadership is underway in the Holmdel school district after Ana Vander Woude was elected President and Dennis Pavlik Vice President. Vander Woude and Pavlik took the reins from sitting board members Barbara Garrity and Robin Wetmore, after a close vote for both seats. Vander Woude garnered five of the nine board votes, while Pavlik also won his seat with five votes. Wetmore and Board member Mike Sockol were also nominated for the president and vice president seats. The new leadership comes at a contentious time on the board, after allegations of "bullying" between board members were brought up publicly at a November meeting by Vander Woude and Pavlik. Ethics Violations Charge Lodged Against Three Holmdel School Board Members

The members received word last week and have retained private attorneys to defend themselves.

Three Holmdel Board of Education members have been accused of violating a code of ethics by another board member or members, the public learned Wednesday night at the school board meeting at Satz School.  The three board members, Ana Vander Woude, Dennis Pavlik and Phyllis Pascucci, said at Thursday night's meeting that they stand accused after raising a concern on Oct. 27 related to a school district employee's second job. But the three board members said they felt "intimidated" and "bullied" by certain board members as a consequence of bringing up the matter.  They, and other members of the board, have declined to be more specific about the concern …

Two Holmdel School Board Members Say They Are Being 'Bullied' for Raising an Issue

Dennis Pavlik and Ana Vander Woude say they have been made to feel intimidated for bringing to a light a "serious" and "delicate" issue they say they cannot speak publicly about.

A routine Board of Education meeting took an unexpected turn Wednesday night when two board members took the unusual action of reading aloud statements that said they feel intimidated by the board and its attorney as a consequence of raising a certain "delicate" and "serious" issue in October. Members Dennis Pavlik and Ana Vander Woude said they fear they are now at risk for being slapped with ethics violations, and for being sued -- and now must take steps to defend themselves and their families.  At the conclusion of their statements, which was followed by an awkward silence, Board President Barbara Garrity and Board Attorney Martin Barger said they could not comment on their allegations, because the matter involves personnel -- …
