Impreveduto Wants Vista to Remain the Same Around Alcatel-Lucent

Mayor Impreveduto outlined his personal wishes for the Holmdel property.

Mayor Patrick Impreveduto said his goal for the Alcatel-Lucent property in Holmdel is to keep the vista the same, despite impending residential development. "My ultimate wish would have been to have one company come in and take the whole building over and leave things the way are," Impreveduto said. "But unfortunately that's not reality." The most recent development plans submitted by Somerset Development propose two conceptual plans with age restricted housing, a sports complex and and a fitness facility. But the proposal was sent back to the developer after the township's committee asked for more detailed plans in January. "It seems like a housing component is needed on the property in order for the property to be financially viable," …

And to short-circuit the usual cries of " bigot", Holmdel has a distinguishing characteristic, which is a lovely blend of many different people, speaking different languages, some from recent immigrants from other countries, some yes, from Staten Island, many cultures and religions represented - yes, Jewish people live in Holmdel, too - but the one thing we all have in common is our pride in and …   more ›

Mayor: Holmdel Will Not Be Environmentally Impacted by Expanded Sewerage Map

Impreveduto said after speaking with environmental experts and engineers, he believes the expanded sewer system won't negatively impact the township.

A proposal for expanded sewer service came back before a branch of the Monmouth County Planning Board last week, and it could mean a full sewer system on the Alcatel Lucent property.  In 2011, Holmdel residents rallied against the expanded sewer system plans, which could allow the entire Lucent and Garden State Arts properties to become sewered.  Holmdel Mayor Patrick Impreveduto said during a statement in 2011, "If you cover up all the land with buildings, roadways, parking lots, etc. and don't allow the rain, snow and yes, septic, to meander slowly down to be cleansed and filtered by the soil, you are not going to recharge the aquifer." A meeting on Feb. 13 of the Monmouth County Water Quality Management Plan Amendment Review Committee …

Characterizing CILU as an extremist group of radicals is so ridiculous it's laughable. Only an extremist would characterize them as such (oh...as well as League of Women Voters, right, Tom? ("He who calls someone a fool is himself a fool..." Remember who said that?). They are simply a group of very educated folks aware of the common pitfalls and cascade of events that lead to over development. …   more ›

Expanded Sewer Service in Monmouth County is Back on the Agenda

Holmdel residents ralled in 2011 to stop the action, which has not officially been taken yet.

Expanded sewerage plans are back on the agenda in Monmouth County, and Holmdel residents are again left wondering whether or not water supply in the township could be impacted. A future wastewater service area map will be discussed again in Monmouth County on Wednesday morning by the Monmouth County Water Quality Management Plan Amendment Review Committee. In 2011, Holmdel residents rallied against the expanded sewer system plans, which could allow the entire Lucent and Garden State Arts properties to become sewered.  Holmdel Mayor Patrick Impreveduto said during a statement in 2011, "If you cover up all the land with buildings, roadways, parking lots, etc. and don't allow the rain, snow and yes, septic, to meander slowly down to be …

Mr. Boyd, I realize Colts Neck is part of the Freehold Regional High School system, which includes Colts Neck, Freehold, Howell, Manalapan and Marlboro. Colts Neck residents most certainly do pay a portion of their property taxes for their school system, which also includes kindergarten through eighth grade. Do you know what the cost is to a Colts Neck homeowner per year for their school system? …   more ›

The conceptual maps for the Alcatel-Lucent property presented in the Concept Map are frightening but not really very different from what I expected.

Somerset Development Signs Contract for Alcatel-Lucent Property

Elsie Sterling Howard Oversight LLC of Miami is no longer in the picture, said Holmdel Mayor Patrick Impreveduto.

Somerset Development has entered into a contract with Alcatel-Lucent to purchase the 473-acre Crawfords Corner Road property in Holmdel for an undisclosed price, Mayor Patrick Impreveduto said Wednesday night. The closing date is Dec. 31. Somerset will develop the property in accordance with the township's Redevelopment Plan adopted in May if the deal is sealed, Impreveduto said.  "I'm really excited -- excited we are moving forward," said the mayor, who met with Somerset's Ralph Zucker and his associate at Town Hall on Wednesday afternoon.   The new agreeement with Somerset was confirmed by Alcatel Lucent spokeswoman Denise Panyik-Dale. "We can confirm a new contract has been signed with Somerset Development," she said Wednesday night, …

There was a time when around 100 students graduated from Holmdel High. It's been between 400 and 500 recently. When you see how many lunch periods (five?) there are in the high school, and how crowded the hallways are between classes, it does make you realize that the lunch room is too small, and the distance between some classes for the kids is too far. At one time, most of the kids in Holmdel …   more ›

Vandals Strike Alcatel-Lucent Outlying Buildings Sunday

The trespassers gained entry to some small outer buildings and caused some damage.

On Sunday, vandals broke windows and sprayed fire extinguishers in some outer buildings behind the main Alcatel-Lucent building on Crawfords Corner Road, Holmdel Police say.  Security guards called police at 5:21 p.m. to report the criminal mischief. They told police their last check of the area where the damage occurred was at 1:21 p.m.  Windows were broken at what is known as the Wave Guide Building, and fire extinguishers were found laying outside.  The glass portion to a metal door to Building 10, the Ocean Simulator Facililty, was also broken. Police found fire extinguishers had been sprayed inside the building. One fire extinguisher was thrown through the window of Building 11.  A security officer had observed three juveniles walking…

Still No Plan for Huge Alcatel-Lucent Property

After a Florida buyer entered into contract with Alcatel-Lucent, people in Holmdel became hopeful an important ratable and employer would be revived. But so far, there is nothing to report, says a township official.

Holmdel Township officials are speaking several times a week with a contract buyer about plans for the important vacant Alcatel-Lucent property in the heart of the town. But there still is "nothing definitive to announce," said Holmdel Township Deputy Mayor Eric Hinds, who is serving as the acting mayor during Mayor Patrick Impreveduto's summer vacation.  "Nothing has changed. Elsie [Sterling Howard] is actively engaging in coversations -- with the town, with Lucent  -- but there's no plan in motion. As of 11 a.m. today [Tuesday], there is nothing definitive to announce, about anything," said Hinds, Tuesday evening.  Two members of the five-member Township Committee, Hinds and Impreveduto, are tasked with representing Holmdel Township on …

Alcatel-Lucent's stock hit $1.01 per share today, the lowest price since the company was formed. They announced a 5,000 person layoff. Burning cash at an unsustainable rate. The point is, there is a real potential here for BANKRUPTCY. That could tie up the property for 10 years? This situation should be closely monitored by people who are well versed in financial matters, not politicians. If …   more ›

Letter: Holmdel Mayor Updates Residents on Initiatives

In a postal mailing going out next week, Holmdel Mayor Patrick Impreveduto talks about paying down debt, encouraging business, and developing recreation for seniors.

Dear Holmdel Resident, Now that the FY 2012 budget has passed, I would like to talk about the challenges the Township Committee and I faced during its development and our plan to maintain sound fiscal management going forward.   For the five years previous to this one, we were able to keep spending relatively flat through a number of initiatives: sharing services, consolidation of departments, workforce reductions, and working with employee unions to have benefits and pay reflect the difficult economic times we are in. Despite a reduction in state aid, and increases in costs like health insurance, utilities and pension contributions we were able to maintain one of the lowest tax rates in Monmouth County.   This year’s budget reflects a …
