The 17-year-old was driving through Aberdeen on Sunday when the accident occurred.
A vehicle flipped over after the driver struck a concrete divider and traffic signal pole at the intersection of Route 35 and Cliffwood Avenue in Aberdeen on Sunday, according to Police Chief John Powers. Shortly before 5 p.m., a 17-year-old Hazlet resident lost control while driving a 2011 Nissan Maxima through the intersection. The driver was attempting to turn right onto Route 35 south from Cliffwood Avenue when the one-vehicle accident occurred, Powers said. The car came to rest on its roof. The 17-year-old and two juvenile passengers did not report any injuries. The man's identify and the cause of death have not been disclosed.
Updated 4:45 p.m.: Investigators do not suspect foul play in the death of a man discovered at an abandoned factory near the Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station, according to Charles Webster, public information officer for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. The body was discovered in the factory the morning of Saturday, Jan. 19, Webster said. An autopsy performed that afternoon concluded that there was no foul play involved in his death. The identity of the man and the cause of death were not available, Webster said. Webster would not confirm whether or not the man was homeless or why he was in the factory. An Aberdeen man and a Holmdel teen were indicted on charges stemming from incidents in Hazlet, Holmdel and Aberdeen.
Rafael Sanchez, Jr, 23, of Aberdeen and Jennifer Raxach, 18, of Holmdel were indicted by a Monmouth County grand jury on charges filed by Hazlet, Holmdel and Aberdeen. Police say Sanchez stole over $500 worth of jewelry in Aberdeen on July 1 and received over $500 worth of stolen jewelry on both July 11 in Aberdeen and July 16 in Holmdel. Police say Raxach received over $500 worth of stolen jewelry between July 16 and 17 in Hazlet. Sanchez was indicted on three charges, including theft of movable property and two counts of receiving stolen property. All are third degree crimes. Police say the chase began in Howell and went through Freehold, Manalpan and Marlboro before ending in Aberdeen.
Devante Jones, 19, of Cliffwood was indicted this week on charges of eluding police after an August police chase which spanned from Howell to Aberdeen. The chase eventually ended with his being apprehended following a foot pursuit in Aberdeen, according to police. According to Detective Sgt. Eileen Dodd, Jones was observed by Cpl. Fred Bauer to be driving his 2012 Toyota in a reckless manner. After Jones refused to stop he lead officers on a multi-department chase up Rt. 9 through Freehold, Manalapan and Marlboro before Bauer stopped his chase. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time, officials say.
Fire ripped through the second-story bedroom of a Cliffwood Beach home Sunday night, only to rekindle and spread through the second floor of the house. According to Cliffwood Vol. Fire Co. Chief Joe Raymond, a fire on Sherwood Drive was reported to the department at about 9 p.m. on Nov. 4. Upon arrival, the fire department found a fire in a bedroom at the front of the house. The fire department was able to contain the fire to the bedroom and extinguish it. They used a thermal camera to check the structure for any remaining hot spots. According to Raymond, none were identified and no smoke was seen. "We were redispatched about 45 minutes later for a rekindling," he said. Several Route 34 traffic lights are without power as well as over 2,500 JCP&L customers in Matawan and Aberdeen.
Traffic on Route 34 in Matawan and Aberdeen is moving slowly Thursday afternoon after several street lights lost power. According to Matawan Lt. Ben Smith, power lines are down near Gravely Brook Park and JCP&L is on their way to the scene. It's unclear at this time if a transformer blew. Traffic lights at the intersections of Main Street and Route 34, South Atlantic and Route 34, Cambridge Drive and Route 34, and Mill Road and Route 79 are all out, Smith said. Matawan and Aberdeen police officers are stationed at the affected intersections to help keep traffic flowing. Drivers are asked to use caution. Members of the Aberdeen Township police and fire departments were honored Tuesday for their heroic response to the Sept. 6, 2011 accident on Church Street in Aberdeen that killed a six-month-old Holmdel boy and his 22-year-old caretaker. Police found several rifles in a Tree Haven I apartment on Ravine Drive Sunday night after a resident barricaded inside surrendered to police without incident.
Several rifles and a handgun were recovered from an apartment on Ravine Drive in Matawan Sunday night after a man barricaded inside of his Tree Haven I home surrendered to police, according to Lt. Ben Smith. At about 6:15 p.m., the Matawan Borough Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call at the Tree Haven I apartment complex. When officers arrived on the scene, they found that a resident of the complex, later identified as James Weirzbicky, was in possession of a gun and had locked himself inside of his apartment, Smith said. Weirzbicky's wife and a child had already exited the apartment when police arrived and there were no hostages in the apartment, Smith said. Police say the boy attempted to elude arrest near the Hazlet border on Thursday.
A 13-year-old Aberdeen boy was charged with eluding police after a car accident July 19 at the intersection of Lloyd Road and Gerard Avenue. According to Chief of Police John Powers, at about 11:45 last night, P.O. Anthony Marone saw a 2010 Ford Focus pull out of a parking lot on Gaston Street without headlights. Marone attempted to stop the car, but the driver sped away turning onto Geran Street, then onto Broadway in Keyport, Powers said. The car approached the intersection of Lloyd Road and Gerard Avenue and ran a red light at the intersection. An Aberdeen man was transported to the hospital after being hit by a car, according to police
A pedestrian was transported to the hospital after a two vehicle accident sent one vehicle onto the sidewalk along Route 35 in Aberdeen Sunday evening. According to Chief of Police John Powers, Serguei Venikob, 49, of Brooklyn was traveling north at about 8:20 p.m. in a 2010 Toyota Camry in the left lane of traffic approaching Amboy Avenue when he changed lanes. While moving into the right land, Venikob struck a 2004 Toyota Camry operated by Vismit Parikh, 48, of Aberdeen, Powers said. Parikh's wife was also in the vehicle. After being struck, Parikh's vehicle jumped the curb and hit 37-year-old Vdkrishna Siddhani, of Aberdeen, who was walking near the BP Gas Station.
