2012 Primary Election Results in Holmdel and Hazlet

See how many votes your local candidates received in the no-contest primary.

This story was updated with the latest voting numbers on Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. Primary elections were held throughout New Jersey Tuesday, to determine who will represent their party in the general election in November. State Sen. Kyrillos (R-Monmouth) easily won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate over three challengers, and will face incumbent Democrat U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez in the fall. He celebrated at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel Tuesday night. "In Washington, we can stay the course or we can change the course, he said in his remarks. "We must ensure for the people of America opportunities for greatness." Menendez released a statement, saying, “I congratulate State Senator Joe Kyrillos on winning his primary race and …

For once I almost agree with "bud". Party labels are irrelevant in Holmdel, and our little Republican majority is unlikely to swing the state. However, redeveloping the Alcatel-Lucent property might never balance the budget by itself, and certainly won't next year. The stark choice still faces us: tax or default (unless our politicians can scrape up another miracle).   more ›

Committeeman Ponisi Is Optimistic about Holmdel's Fiscal Health

He joined the governing body just two months ago at a time of fiscal crisis to help fill a vacant chair. Now he is optimistic about the township's course, and will seek a one-year term.

When Joseph Ponisi accepted an invitation to apply for an opening on the five-member Township Committee to fill a vacancy two months ago, he was stepping up to stand with a governing body grappling with a crushing fiscal crisis. The budget gap was estimated at the time to be as large as $2.5 million, public land might have to be sold, taxes were going to go up -- and taxpayers were outraged. Since then, a contract buyer has stepped forward to develop the 475-acre Lucent property, the newly hired Township Administrator Andy Katz has identified a plan to increase revenues that has significantly reduced the budget gap, and several private citizens have stepped forward to offer their expertise on the financial advisory committee, swim center …

What pains me is the prospects of an ALL Republican TC without Larry Fink marching us to fiscal oblivion. They seem unwilling or unable to work the budget without selling open space. Lucent is far from a done deal and any substantial fiscal effect will not kick in in 2013 and perhaps not for many years. The fact that Plum Lane is still on the market is indicative that our fiscal woes will remain …   more ›

Committeeman Larry Fink Will Not Seek Re-Election; 2 Dems, 2 Republicans Will Run

The race is on. Two seats on the Republican-dominated Township Committee are up for election in November.

With two Holmdel Township Committee seats up for grabs on Nov. 6 and four candidates throwing their hats in the ring, Democrats and Republicans are preparing for a contest. Township Committeeman Larry Fink, a 12-year veteran of the governing body, former mayor, and the sole Democrat on the 5-member governing body, is not seeking re-election. "I want to spend more time with my other passions: my job -- which is land preservation -- scouting, my family. I've decided its time to let other people carry the ball forward," he said Tuesday. His three year term, and the unexpired one-year term left vacant by Republican Freeholder Serena DiMaso are now in play in a year marked by contentious debate over how to grapple with a $2 million budget gap, …

Holmdel Republicans Declare They Are Running Again; Democrats May Organize Write-In Campaign

Holmdel Democrats may present two candidates to race against two Republican incumbents in the June primary.

Two Republicans currently serving the township have officially announced their plans to run again in the Township Committee race to keep their 3-year seats on the five-member governing body.  Members Patrick Impreveduto and Rocco Pascucci filed petitions to run uncontested by their party in the June primary, according to the Township Clerk’s office. No Democrats filed. But on Tuesday, the Democrat’s acting Municipal Chairman Tony Orsini said the party actually has two potential candidates that may enter the race as write-in candidates. “Within a matter of days, two people have expressed a desire to run,” said Orsini, who declined to name the men, one of whom has run before. “Within the next two weeks we’ll know whether this slate is …
