The local team will play four games at home before heading back on the road early next week. Holmdel High School held the highest ranking for group two fall sports in the ShopRite Cup.
Holmdel High School athletes are among the best in the state, according to their ranking in the annual ShopRite Cup. With 30 points, fall sports at the high school gave Holmdel the highest ranking in Group 2. Boys soccer, girls tennis, and both girls and boys cross country contributed to the school's high standing. "A lot goes into what our coaches do, and our athletes put out a phenomenal work ethic," Holmdel High School Athletic Director Randi Westral said. According to Westral, points are awarded based on appearances and honors in state tournaments as well as extra points for continued sportsmanship. Team to help Sandy victims throughout the year
As our area continues to rebuild from the affects of Hurricane Sandy the Lakewood BlueClaws will be back in town and back in action for another year of South Atlantic League baseball this week. As part of the festivities the team will continue to work to support people who were affected by the storm. The future Philadelphia Phillies will celebrate Opening Day on Thursday when the Kannapolis Intimidators come to town for a four game series. BlueClaws players will wear special Restore The Shore jerseys during the opening weekend. The jerseys will have the names of towns that were impacted by the powerful storm. During the weekend a silent auction will be held for the jerseys with the money benefitting the BlueClaws Charities relief efforts…
