Obituary: Madeline Mihovich, 83 of Holmdel

Madeline moved to NJ in 1939, and four years ago settled in Holmdel.

Madeline M. Mihovich, 83, of Holmdel, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at her home. Heaven is very lucky today, for they have received a very special angel. A true gift from God, our mom and grandma. She was born Madeline M. Walko on Nov. 7, 1929 in PA. In 1939, she moved to NJ, and four years ago settled in Holmdel. Madeline was the past president of Ladies Auxiliary VFW Camptown Post 1941 in Irvington. Before retiring, she was the manager of Close Out Corner, a clothing store in South Plainfield. Madeline loved visiting Atlantic City, and was an avid slot player in both the casino and online games. She also enjoyed word search puzzles, reading, and spending time with her adored …

Obituary: Anthony Antonucci, 14, of Hazlet

Known as Nucci to friends, he played football for the Hazlet Hawks and the Holmdel Hornets and also played on the Hazlet Middle School basketball team.

Anthony Joseph Antonucci, "Nucci", 14, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away suddenly on April 23, 2013. Anthony was born on April 5, 1999 in Red Bank, New Jersey and spent his entire life living in Hazlet, New Jersey. Nucci played football for both the Hazlet Hawks and the Holmdel Hornets and was also on the Hazlet Middle School basketball team. He was looking forward to playing football for Raritan High School and aspired to be a cadet at the North Centerville Fire Company. Black was an associate at B&G Gulf in Holmdel for the past 20 years.

Albert J. Black Sr, 87, of Middletown died Thursday in Holmdel, NJ. He was born in Orange, NJ and lived in Hazlet, before moving to Middletown. Albert worked as a Associate at B&G Gulf, Holmdel for the past 28 years. Before that he owned and operated AlKay Paint and Wallpaper Hazlet, NJ., Bud Paints Plainfield, NJ.,and Carousel Paint and Wallpaper in Old Bridge, NJ. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII as a Torpedo man and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, Good Conduct Metal and the Victory Ribbon. Janet A. Rush, 90, of Holmdel, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.  Janet was born in Brooklyn, NY; and moved to Holmdel in 1956. Janet was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She was the co-owner of Hy-Dee Plastics in New York with her husband. She was an avid bowler and belonged to the Half-Century Club of Holmdel. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, especially by limo. She enjoyed traveling and cruised to many islands. Hazlet Resident Dies at 67 After Life Dedicated to Healthcare & Volunteerism

She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the New Rochelle Hospital School of Nursing in 1966 and engaged in a life long career of caring for the health of others through the VNAs of both New York and New Jersey as well as several hospitals.

Dorothy M. O'Connor, 67, of Hazlet, New Jersey, died suddenly but peacefully, surrounded by her family, on April 10, 2013 at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel, New Jersey. She was born Dorothy Margret Messinger on May 17, 1945 and grew up in the Bronx, New York. In 1973 she married Francis P. O'Connor and moved to Brooklyn, New York. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the New Rochelle Hospital School of Nursing in 1966 and engaged in a life long career of caring for the health of others through the VNAs of both New York and New Jersey as well as several hospitals. Andy Colmant, Devoted Eucharistic Minister and Park Service Guide, Dies at 81

Andy was a Eucharistic Minister, bringing Holy Communion to Bayshore Community Hospital for decades as a member of the community of St. Benedict.

Andrew R. Colmant, 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at his residence, the Bayshore Healthcare Center in Holmdel. Andy was a U.S. Marine, attorney, volunteer, swimmer, gardener, loving father and grandfather. He was also a constant and caring servant to his community. Andy touched the lives of many people, as a Eucharistic Minister, bringing Holy Communion to Bayshore Community Hospital for decades as a member of the community of St. Benedict, where he also served as a finance chairman and track coach. He was a faithful volunteer for the National Park Service at the lighthouse at Sandy Hook, NJ, and a tour guide at the Twin Lights Historic Site in Navesink, NJ. John McGowan, Former Bell Telephone Employee, Dies at 84

John McGowan had a 35 year career with the Bell Telephone Company at Bell Laboratories, New York Telephone, AT&T and Bell Communications Research, where he retired in 1989.

Mr. McGowan, 84, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2013. John graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, NY. He earned a B.S.E.E. from New York University and a MBS through AT&T's Executive Master's Program. John served in the Korean War with the United States Navy as an Electronics Technician from 1949 to 1953. He had a 35 year career with the Bell Telephone Company at Bell Laboratories, New York Telephone, AT&T and Bell Communications Research, where he retired in 1989. Woodrow Francis, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. He was 96. Born in Holmdel on Nov. 7, 1916, on the day Woodrow Wilson was elected the 28th President of the United States, he was the son of Edward and Elizabeth Francis. The Francis family farm, later the Laura Harding Estate, is now Bayonet Farm, a Holmdel Twp. Park. Woody, as his friends knew him, was a lifelong resident of Middletown. He graduated with honors from Middletown High School in 1935. He was Manager of John L. Hendrickson's Old Wagon Farm for some 40 years, retiring in 1980. Rose Zappulla, 88, of Hazlet, New Jersey, was called to the Kingdom of God to meet her beloved husband of 69 years, Paul Zappulla, on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Willows in Holmdel, New Jersey. She was born Rose Albi on May 16, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York, where she grew up and spent most of her life. Rose met and married her beloved husband, Paul, in St. Finbar Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn, New York. While raising seven children, she worked tirelessly volunteering doing God's work in St. Finbar. Rose cooked for the nuns and priests, worked for "Love Builds" caring for disabled children, made hosts for communion and was a Eucharistic minister.
