It Is Our Town: Holmdel High School Boys and Girls Soccer Both Beat SJV

Coach Jennifer Conroy has been the coach of the Holmdel Girls Varsity Soccer team for 17 years now. And, although along the way many of those years have had successful teams, something happened to her tonight that has never happened before in her time as the coach.  The Holmdel Girls Varsity Soccer team is off to their best start in 17 years with a perfect record of 7-0, having beaten rival St. John Vianney by a score of 2-1.   If you came late, you may have missed all of the scoring.  SJV scored first with a beautiful shot by their center midfielder, Sheilagh Kerrisk.  Gabby Bair got Holmdel on the board a few minutes later with her 7th goal of the season to make it 1 all.  The tie was broken quickly thereafter by freshman, Maggie Matthijs, with her first high school career goal.

The Holmdel Girls, (7-0; 6-0) now sit atop of the Central Jersey Group 2 and A Central divisions.  The Girls play next Monday against a tough non-divisional opponent, St. Rose.  That game will be played away at 4 p.m.  This team is exciting!!  Come out and cheer the girls on.

Not to be outdone, the boys  soundly beat St. John Vianney on the turf field at Holmdel High School by a score of 4-1.  Holmdel Scored its first two goals in less than 2 minutes.  The first by junior, Gino D'Agostino and the second by senior, Jack Flanagan.  Senior, Jason Kyriacou added his 6th goal of the season in the 33rd minute and D'Agostino added another with 19 minutes to go in the first half.  Holmdel ended the half up 4-0 but SJV came out strong in the second and put up a goal quickly.  Holmdel tightened up its defense and shut SJV down for the remainder of the game coming away with the solid win.  The Boys are now 6-1 (6-1; 5-1).  They face non-divisional opponent Shore Regional at home on Monday at 5:30 p.m.  Shore was this team's only regular season loss last year, so look for Holmdel to even the score.

This is an exciting week coming up for our Hornets so come on out and catch a game.  I will see you there.
