Holmdel Girls Varsity Does it Again: beats RBC 2-1

Goalkeeper Helen Burleigh

It's been a long time in the making.  Holmdel Girls Varsity beat Red Bank Catholic at the Count Basie fields today by a score of 2-1.  Sophomore Gabriella Bair added 2 more goals to her growing collection.  Her first goal came with 14:42 remaining in the first half giving Holmdel a 1-0 lead which lasted through the first half.  Despite the fast tempo of RBC's game, Holmdel was able to hold them scoreless in the first half.

Bair added an insurance goal in the second half and Holmdel held the 2-0 lead until about 4 minutes remaining in the game.   RBC was able to break through Holmdel's defense and connect to bring the game to within 1.  RBC unleashed the pressure, trying desperately to bury another ball in the net.  Yet, Holmdel held on, and beat RBC for the first time in more than 5 years.

The Girls Varsity  host Manasquan at home on Tuesday at 5:30 pm at Roggy field.  Holmdel is looking to avenge their loss to Manasquan in the first round of state championship play last year.  Come on out and support our 5-0 Girls Varsity soccer team.

Holmdel Boys Varsity plays at home Saturday at 2 pm at Roggy field against RBC.  It's going to be a beautiful day.  Come on over to Holmdel High School and support the players.  I will see you there.
