Holmdel Girls SCT run ends with a Loss to Central Regional

The Holmdel Girls Varsity team hosted Central Regional today for the Shore Conference Quarter Finals.  Central scored first, in the first 6 minutes of the game, and dominated the first 20 minutes of play. Holmdel turned it around and outshot and out possessed Central for the next 20 minutes but just could not find the back of the net.  The teams went into the half with Central up 1-0.  Central came out strong in the second half and was able to go up 2-0 on a penalty kick and add a third goal late in the second half to guarantee their victory.  Despite the loss, a strong performance today from goalkeeper Helen Burleigh.

Central Regional, the #13 seed in the SCT, beat Monsignor Donovan,  #4 Toms River North and now #5 Holmdel to advance to the Shore Conference semi-finals against #1 Freehold Boro Wednesday night at 7 pm in Neptune.  The other SCT semi-final  game will be #2 Toms River South against #6 RBC.  Red Bank Catholic won earlier today on penalty kicks against #3 Freehold Township.

The Holmdel girls have had a successful season to date and will put aside this loss to start preparing for their NJSIAA Division II state games, set to begin next week.  Holmdel has a non-divisional game scheduled away, against Mater Dei, on Wednesday, at 4 pm.

The Holmdel Boys Varsity has their Shore Conference quarter- final game tomorrow at 4 pm at home against Jackson Memorial.  Come on out and cheer the boys on. The girls variety team will be there and so will I. We hope to see you there too!
