Boys Varsity shutout Manasquan and Girls lose
The Boys Varsity Soccer team improved their record to 11-1-1(9-1-1) by beating Manasquan 2-0 at home tonight on Roggy field. Junior, Menor Hiras scored the first goal in the first half and Senior, Jack Flanagan added a second insurance goal in the second half, his seventh of the season, as Holmdel came away with the 2-0 win. Sophomore, goalkeeper, Tyler Marchiano had 5 saves to get his 7th shutout of the season.
The Boys play away on Wednesday, at St. John Vianney, at 3:45 pm. This will be Holmdel's last divisional game. Rumson beat SJV tonight, 3-2, to keep pace with Holmdel, in the quest to win A Central. Rumson (11-1-1)(8-1-1) has 2 divisional games remaining, against Manasquan and Monmouth Regional.
Meanwhile, the Girls suffered their first conference loss of the season to Manasquan. Converting off a corner kick within the first 5 minutes of play, Manasquan was able to go up 1-0 on the Hornets and then hold them scoreless for the remainder of the game. Holmdel faces SJV for their last divisional game on Wednesday, at home, at 5:30 p.m. This is an important game for the girls, as they try to win their division.
