Florida was flooded with cheerleaders from around the country this week as the Holmdel Pee Wee team brought the Hornets Sting to Orlando.

The competition was fierce as family and friends filled the stands watching teams from across the country compete for the National title that most of these girls held as Junior Pee Wee’s the prior year.

After 6 months of extensive training, hurricane Sandy, a blizzard and loosing their practice facility, the moment arrived. At 3:40 Saturday afternoon Holmdel took the floor.  The audience quieted and parents sat on the edge of their seats as the first routine began.  A cheering crowd roared as the flawless routine was executed, yet many more teams needed to compete that day. Did Holmdel have the moves that would bring another title back to our town?

At 9:30 that same evening all the competitors had finished.  Teams from across the country were announced and paraded down the red carpet to await the results.  The room was still as the winners were to be called.  Third place goes to Madison Tigers from New England…. then second, Pelham Razorbacks (also New England) …and yet we still waited.  Not one parent took a breathe as the final winner…the 2012 National Champions were announced.  The presenter raised his mike, took a moment (for effect) and announced ”First Place National Champions. The Holmdel Hornets” . Screams, tears, cheers are intermingled as the girls cried with their coaches on the floor and went to received the coveted Red Jacket awarded to the National Champions.  So the next time you hear “The Red Coats are coming” stand proud, they cheer for Holmdel, they cheer for you, they cheer for OUR town.  Holmdel Hornets you make us proud.
