No Vacation for Bayshore Hurricane Sandy Victims

Many of our Bayshore residents are still picking up the pieces of their lives as congress goes into recess and President Obama goes on vacation without getting a hurricane Sandy relief bill passed.

Two months after hurricane sandy pounded the Bayshore of New Jersey and New York, congress went into recess without brining to vote on a relief bill that would provide relief for hurricane sandy victims. President Obama jumped onto Air Force one to re-join his family on their Hawaiian holiday vacation. I don't begrudge him his time off with his family, I understand that he has one of the hardest jobs in the world but it's certainly no vacation for the many people here in the Bayshore area who are just starting to rebuild their lives.

When President Obama visited our area, he promised to be engaged and to help cut through any red tape to help with the recovery efforts. I believe with more leadership on this matter from the President, he would have been able to pressure congress to get this done. Our elected officials should be ashamed to have let this relief bill die in the house with so many people still suffering.

On September 2, 2005, President Bush signed into law a $10.5 billion dollar disaster aid bill followed by congress approving $51.8 billion in relief on September 8, 2005. Hurricane Katrina made landfall on August 28, 2005.

I guess this type of sense of urgency from our current elected officials is just to much to expect.
