Summer Reading for Kids. Iced Latte for Mom

Sssh. It's a secret. Brookdale is hosting a series of reading events for school age kids and their siblings (with a café for parents!).

Despite the profusion of Mommy and Me options available -- or maybe because of them -- some among the mommy throng would just like someone to take over the reins for a few so we, I mean, they, could sit down for a minute and sip something caffeinated without having to answer a stream of questions, the answers to which will immediately be challenged.

Well thank you, Brookdale, because on July 18 the good people of the Scroll & Pen College Store on  Lincroft main campus are inviting kids to come and read with them while their mommies or daddies chillax in the on-site cafe and lounge.

“We really want to encourage the kids to read and have fun," said Megan Andrews, program coordinator. "Together we will be reading a selection from the books followed by two fun and exciting activities. While the books are available for purchase, is it not necessary to do so,” she said.

The programs are appropriate for ages seven through 12 with siblings of all ages also welcome. Andrews says parents may participate in the activities or relax and enjoy the café and lounge during the program. Thank you Megan!

Upcoming events include an American Girl reading series, and beginning July 18, The Name of this Book is Secret Summer Series, appropriate for third through sixth grades readers. If the kids have a copy of the book, they are encouraged to bring it with them to read along.
