Remember the Drive-In? Outdoor Movies Reappear in Holmdel and Hazlet

On Monday night, the film "Jurassic Park," will be shown under the stars in Holmdel.

Shore Flicks' 2012 free Summer Movie Series schedule includes 60 nights of movies in 19 towns throughout Monmouth County.

This year's series in Holmdel and Hazlet will feature family classics and favorites like "Madagascar" and "The Muppets." The movies are presented in conjunction with the township Recreation Departments.

In Holmdel, the summer series kicks off with Jurassic Park on Monday, June 25,  presented on the lawn next to the Community Center on Crawfords Corner Road. Next up is Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory on July 23, and Zookeeper on August 27. Shore Flicks is collecting canned goods to benefit the area food banks.

“Our goal is to bring back the outdoor family movie experience by echoing the nostalgic feel of the drive-in movie theater, which was invented in New Jersey,” said Shore Flicks owner TJ Brustowicz.

While audiences enjoy the movies, each movie night Shore Flicks will be collecting non-perishable food items to be distributed to food banks and pantries throughout the area, with an aim to surpass last year's total of 1,000 pounds of food collected.

This year, the Shore Flicks Free Summer Movie Series will also support two local charities, Clean Ocean Action and Kick Cancer Overboard. In addition, during the series, Shore Flicks will showcase the music video “Kindness Boomerang,” produced by the non-profit organization Life Vest Inside. Shot in downtown Red Bank, “Kindness Boomerang” illustrates the broader impact of one random act of kindness, according to Brustowicz.

Movies will begin about 30 minutes after sundown and are shown on Shore Flicks' 16-foot screen. Movie nights are free of charge for both audiences and towns due to the many local sponsors and businesses Shore Flicks has. For more information, please visit www.shoreflicks.com.
