Air Quality Alert Issued for Thursday in Monmouth County

Due to sunny skies, warm temperatures and southwest winds, the ozone is forecast to reach the unhealthy level.

An Ozone Action Day has been declared for Monmouth County for Thursday, May 30 by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Moderate levels of ozone are forecast across New Jersey, including Monmouth, due to mostly sunny skies, warm temperatures and southwest winds that will bring dirtier air to the region.

An “orange” warning has been declared for Monmouth County as the ozone is forecast to reach the unhealthy level for sensitive groups for central and southern New Jersey.

Sensitive individuals include the young, elderly and people with respiratory diseases such as asthma, according to the Department of Environmental Protection. Those people should avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the afternoon and evening hours.

Moderate levels of fine particulate are also forecast statewide.

The forecast for Thursday is mostly sunny with a high near 88, according to the National Weather Service. Friday will also be sunny with a high near 87.

The National Weather Service expects the heat index values to rise to the 90 to 95 range in the next few days.
