Booker Releases Second Spanish-Language Television Ad

The commercial marks the Newark mayor's fourth overture to the Spanish-speaking electorate during the Senate race.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker on Monday released the second Spanish-language television ad of his U.S. Senate campaign.

The 30-second spot, to air on Spanish language network and cable stations, focuses on the economy, pointing to Booker’s efforts to improve the economy of the state’s largest city.

"To fix the economy, we must look for solutions instead of excuses," Booker says in the ad. "In Newark we created jobs and improved wages, no 'ifs,' 'ands' or 'buts' about it. That is what I did as Mayor and what I will do as your Senator."

This is the fourth overture to Spanish speaking voters. Booker earlier this month released his first television ad and two radio spots in Spanish.

Booker is the heavy favorite in recent polling among the four contenders for the U.S. Senate seat of late Sen. Frank Lautenberg. Booker is vying against U.S. Reps. Frank Pallone (D-6) and Rush Holt (D-12), along with state Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-34) in the Aug. 13 special primary election.

The winner there will face either Somerset County Physician Alieta Eck or Steve Lonegan, former Bogota mayor, in the Oct. 16 special Senate election.
