Holmdel X-Country Boys Varsity Wins Group II Central Jersey Championship

The Holmdel Cross Country Varsity team scored an impressive victory at the Group II Central Jersey Championships on Saturday at Thompson Park in Jamesburg. 

Led by Jack Baisley, Jason McMullen, and Travis Fodor the team placed five runners in the top ten. Andrew Tsai, Dan Barlev, Eric Williams and Nick DeMaio contributed to the team victory. 

Running in a field of over 100 contestants the Holmdel team pulled out to a fast start and was firmly in the lead by the first big turn on the course.  Jack (16:25), Jason (16:37), and Travis (16:38) set a blistering pace for the 5K run and the team scored an impressive 21 points beating Delaware Valley (2nd place) by 33 points (cross country scores low to high). 

All Holmdel runners ran their personal best times for the Thompson park course with a team average of 5.22 per mile for the scoring runners (XC takes the 5 best times for the team). 

Sean McCafferty, Head Coach, is to be congratulated on getting the team ready for the victory.  The win is the first for the Varsity team since 2007 and is the 10th Sectional win since the school opened in the early 1970’s.

The win qualifies Holmdel to compete in the Group II State Championship to be run next Saturday, November 12th, at Holmdel Park.  The boys’ race will be at 11:15AM.
