Holmdel Foundation Unveils Inspiring Mural

If you were anywhere near the Holmdel High School commons on Tuesday night, then you were as privileged as I was to view the unveiling of the stunning mural created by the high school Honors Arts students in support of the HFEE's fundraising efforts to enhance the lighting in the high school's Performing Arts Center.

The mural, an homage to DaVinci's classic piece Vitruvian Man, was conceived, crafted, and composed by members of the Honors Art class at the high school. With the guidance of Art teacher Ms. Lazar, these creative students were able to convey the spirit of the arts, the soul of athletics, and the appreciation of academic and intellectual pursuits in this colorful and eye-catching masterpiece.

What was equally impressive was the turnout from the community. The room was filled with students, teachers, parents, board members, administrators, and neighbors which only served to add to the energy, excitement, and passion felt in the building as the ribbon was cut and the mural was dedicated.

Outgoing chairperson for the HFEE, Teresa Graw, expressed her thanks to all those who continue to support the Foundation's efforts at enhancing opportunities for the children of the community. Special thanks went to Amy Stark, president of the Holmdel Creative Arts Association, and all the members of the HCAA for their generous donation in helping meet the goal to fully fund the purchase of the stage lighting. Additional thanks were extended to the Holmdel Schools parents associations, who also rallied to make a very sizable donation and, of course, all those families and individuals who so kindly continue to help the Foundation fund these improvements.

Honors Arts students Cara Hazel and Jerry Lu offered some insightful and touching words about the creation of the mural, Ms. Lazar formerly thanked all the students for their tireless efforts, and fundraising chairperson Christine Hazel gave a very heartfelt speech thanking Ms. Lazar and all the students who brought the dream into reality. Afterwards, everyone scrambled to take photos in front of the mural.

Take a moment to look at the uploaded photos and video from the ceremony, stop by the high school to see the mural, and feel free to become a donor by visiting The PAC 21st Century Stage Enhancements Fund Drive on hfee.org. As always, thank you for your continued support!
