Holmdel community poker players raise $4000 for schools

More than 70 community members showed up at the Red Oak Diner last Friday night for food, drink, and poker in a fundraising event organized by the Holmdel Foundation for Educational Excellence (HFEE).  Husbands, wives, teachers and parents– many of whom were poker novices – went “all in” to win big prizes and raise money for the Holmdel schools.

Brian Kennedy, co-chair of the HFEE, proudly stated “This was our first-ever HFEE poker tournament. We were blown away by the show of support, and everyone had a great time”. The event was staffed by professional poker dealers who all kept the cards moving for the amateur players. One local parent, Judi Rabkin,  offered“I sat next to another local mom who hadn’t played before, but it was great to learn and win some chips!”

People who were knocked out early had the chance to enjoy the Red Oak Bar and also play some blackjack. Those who stayed to watch the final table were treated to some exciting play that featured Joe Todisco rebound from having only two chips left to winning the big $1,000 prize over Joe Hammer.  In the end, eight people from the final table walked away with a total of over $2,000 in prizes, but the real winners were the students at all of the Holmdel schools.

The proceeds from the tournament will be granted to both student and teacher projects that will serve to enhance the educational experience in the district. For more information on HFEE, check out their website at HFEE.org.

As always, thank you for your continued support.
