What's Happening In Hazlet Schools: No School on Memorial Day, BOGO Book Fairs

A look at what is planned for Hazlet public school students in the month of June, as reported by Raritan High School junior Bianca Lucarini.

Raritan High School junior Bianca Lucarini is the student representative to the Board of Education. She gave this school district report at board's Monday, May 20 meeting. 

First off, Raritan High School’s staff and students showed us their hidden talents at The Talent Show on May 8. With so much competition it was tough to decide a winner, however, we would like to congratulate Brianna Payne for winning this year’s talent show and thank everyone who participated! Raritan experienced a British Invasion on May 10th hosting Beatle Mania. With popular tunes such as Revolution and Here Comes the Sun, the crowd was in full swing, singing and dancing to all the legendary hits. RHS band members rocked the school on May 14 while performing their Spring Concert for friends and family. Students had an amazing time expressing themselves and reading admired works at the annual Poetry Slam on May 15. There is a Rocket Launcher Meeting on May 22 at 7:00 p.m. The Music Department will host their Banquet on Thursday, May 23. School will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day, and school will reopen on May 28. On Wednesday May 29th, Raritan will host Scholars Award Night at 6:30 p.m. For Spring Athletes, Tuesday June 4th Raritan will be having their Annual Spring Sports Awards Night held in the auditorium. Wednesday June 5th at 6:30 p.m. will be Senior Scholarship Night.

Next, Hazlet Middle School students successfully took their NJ ASK testing from April 30 to May 2. On Wednesday, May 15 band members put on a spectacular performance for staff and students to see. On Thursday May 16 Progress Reports became available on the Parent Portal. Hazlet Middle School hosted a 6th grade students and parents in an Open House tomorrow on May 21. School will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day, and school will reopen on May 28. Finally, 8th grade students are extremely excited to visit The Atlantic Club on their class trip on Friday, June 7.

Over at Beers Street Elementary School, students successfully completed their NJ ASK testing from May 6 to May 9. On Friday May 17 at 6:00 p.m. parents and students had an amazing time watching and cheering in the stands at the Blue Claws Game. Beers Street students are super excited to participate in Field Day on Friday, May 24. School will be closed Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day, and school will reopen on May 28th. Turn off the T.V. and pick up a book at The BOGO Book Fair which will be held on Monday, June 3 and Tuesday, June 4. On Tuesday, June 4, students will dance the night away at the 6th grade Dance held at the Hazlet Middle School from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Fourth and fifth grade students will be having their Meet and Greet Dance at Beers Street School on June 6. On Friday June 7, we will receive a visit from Hazlet Librarian from 8:30-9:00 a.m.

Cove Road School successfully completed their NJ ASK testing from May 6 to May 9. The PTO plant sale was a hit and plenty of students bought beautiful flowers for the spring season. Band Members were a sensation, performing their Spring Concert at RHS on May 13 for family, friends and staff to see. Fifth graders enjoyed a taste of summer by visiting Sandy Hook on May 17. On May 24, Cove Road School is excited to learn about different cultures around the world celebrating International Culture Day. School will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day, and school will reopen on May 28. Students are thrilled to learn and discover new careers at Career Day, on May 31. On Tuesday June 4, 6th grade students will meet new friends at the 6th grade dance at Hazlet Middle School. 4th and 5th grade students will also mingle with new acquaintances on June 5 at the Meet and Greet Dance. Finally Cove Road students are eager to participate in this year’s Field Day on June 7.

Lillian Drive School are holding their 3rd and 4th grade NJ ASK makeup’s from May 20 to Friday, May 24. Second grade students are ecstatic to go their field trip on May 23. School will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day, and school will reopen on May 28. Thursday, May 30 - this a big day for Lillian Drive School; they will be celebrating their 50th Birthday! Students will enjoy themselves in the celebration by attending Field Day and the Carnival. Later that night 4th grade students will perform their concert at RHS at 7:00 p.m. Stop by and grab a cup of Joe with the principal on June 4 afrom 6:30 to 7 p.m. The PTO meeting will be held on June 4 at 7:00 p.m. On Thursday, June 6 from 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. third graders only will bring their grandparents to school for Grandparents Day.

Middle Road Elementary School had a successful BOGO Book Sale on May 20. NJ ASK make-up testing is being administered from May 21 through May 24. Calling all Einstein’s and Newton’s - on May 21 at 7:00 p.m. first and second graders will have their Science Fair while third and fourth graders will have their Science Fair May 22nd from 7 to 8 p.m. Students will be asked to wear red, white and blue for Memorial Day Observation. School will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day, and school will reopen on May 28. The school store will be open on Tuesday, May 28. Finally, students are excited to attend a magical assembly on May 29 with the Illusion Maker.

Raritan Valley Elementary School’s 3rd and 4th grade students successfully completed the NJ ASK testing. Students and Parents enjoyed watching and cheering for the Blue Claws during their game on May 17. Raritan Valley students have worked very hard and are extremely excited to perform their Spring Concert on Wednesday May 22 at RHS at 7 p.m. The second and fourth grade students are thrilled to go on their class Field Trip on May 24. School will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day, and school will reopen on May 28. Tuesday May 28, pick up a great read at Raritan Valley, they will be hosting The BOGO Book Fair! Friday, May 31 will be Field Day for all students. Finally, Tuesday June 4 Raritan Valley will host an assembly.

Lastly, at Sycamore Drive Early Childhood Learning Center the Plant Sale was an ultimate success; students bought beautiful plants to decorate their homes and really jump into the spring spirit. Children had a blast participating in Field Day on May 16. On May 21 school supports enjoyed delicious brick oven pizza at Bertucci’s Restaurant for our fundraiser. May 24 students will be requested to wear red, white and blue for Memorial Day Observation. School will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day, and school will reopen on May 28. From Wednesday June 5 to Friday June 7, Sycamore will be hosting their BOGO Book Fair. There will be a PTO meeting that day at 7:30 p.m. Finally Sycamore Drive will provide some tasty treats at Dessert with Someone Special on June 6.
