Scissors Snip in Holmdel for 'Locks for Love'

Eleven teachers and students at the Holmdel Village School Elementary School donated their hair for Locks of Love, the non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to children with hair loss.

The event on June 8 was coordinated by Village school teachers Sandi Klinger and Allison Seman. 

The teachers involved in the event all have a personal connection to cancer and all wanted to help children in need; and they felt that this is something they could do to help. 

Mrs. Klinger has a nephew and a cousin who are battling cancer and Mrs. Seman herself is a cancer survivor. 

The teachers who donated their hair each have a personal connection to cancer too. 

"This was an easy decision for me as my 5-year old nephew has been battling cancer since he was diagnosed at age 2," said second grade teacher Kristen Savare. "Each and every one of us sadly knows someone who has been affected by this horrible disease and when it knocks on a child's door we are affected the most because it spares no innocence.  The idea that my hair can help someone like my nephew feel a little bit more comforted during this difficult time makes me feel honored to do something to help these little warriors." 

The students who participated ranged from Kindergarten to 3rd grade, and one was a college student whose cousin also participated in the event. Two parents also donated their hair for the cause. 

The haircuts took place at Village School during the school day.  Teri Aniello, one of the secretaries at Village School was the hairdresser in charge. Aniello has been a hairdresser for 20 years. 

Mrs. Klinger donated her hair two years ago at the event and it is our hope to hold this event at Village School either every year, or every other year.
