New Leadership Elected on Holmdel School Board

Ana Vander Woude was elected President of the Board of Education.

New leadership is underway in the Holmdel school district after Ana Vander Woude was elected President and Dennis Pavlik Vice President.

Vander Woude and Pavlik took the reins from sitting board members Barbara Garrity and Robin Wetmore, after a close vote for both seats.

Vander Woude garnered five of the nine board votes, while Pavlik also won his seat with five votes. Wetmore and Board member Mike Sockol were also nominated for the president and vice president seats.

The new leadership comes at a contentious time on the board, after allegations of "bullying" between board members were brought up publicly at a November meeting by Vander Woude and Pavlik.

Those allegations were contested by Garrity and Superintendent Barbara Duncan.

Three board members were sworn in, including Wetmore and Chiung-Yin Cheng Liu. Wetmore was first elected to the board in 2005 and Liu in 2009. Joseph Hammer was recently elected in Nov. 2012.
