New Assistant Principal Appointed to Holmdel High

Owen Bonner will begin in July.

The Holmdel Board of Education approved the appointment of a new high school assistant principal at its meeting on Wednesday.

Owen Bonner was hired on a one-year contract that begins July 1, at an annual salary of $92,000. He will take the place of Assistant Principal Rich Katz, who will retire on May 1. (Alfred Longo will serve as interim Assistant Principal during May and June.) Bonner will work with Assistant Principal Kevin Bals under Principal William Loughran.

"I am extremely excited to be a member of the Holmdel High School administrative staff," he said.

Assistant principals oversee the attendance and discipline of two grades of high school students, as well as supervise certain academic departments and custodial operations at the school. 

Bonner comes to the staff from Central Regional High School in Berkeley, where he has worked for the past 11 years as a social studies teacher, a football, wrestling, and baseball coach, and an activities advisor/supervisor. He began his career at Colts Neck High School, where he worked for three years.

He earned a B.A. in Economics from Montclair State University, and a M.S. in Educational Administration from University of Scranton. Bonner is 40 years old and resides in Beachwood with his wife and two children. 

According to his biography on the Central Regional High School website, Bonner knows how to teach kids how to drive. He is also a deejay.
