MSEP Closing Its Doors after 44 Years

Declining enrollment cited as the primary reason for the closure of the enrichment program.

The Matawan Student Enrichment Program (MSEP) will close after 44 years of offering educational and artistic programming to the community. The previously planned Fall 2013 class schedule has been canceled because of a drop in enrollment.

MSEP released the following statement on Friday:

This past Spring, The Matawan Student Enrichment Program (MSEP) completed its Forty-fourth year of enriching the lives of thousands and thousands of children from Matawan, Aberdeen, Hazlet, Old Bridge, Marlboro and surrounding communities.

MSEP’s staff of instructors, both trained educators and talented specialists, didn’t consider it “work” to come and teach their special subjects on Saturday mornings. They enjoyed it and got as much out of it as their students, if not more!

The course offerings have had a number of perennial ones coming back year after year, but also included timely courses. Remember Disco Dancing? Cabbage Patch Dolls (MSEP’s were Lettuce Patch Dolls)? And currently Hip Hop, Robotics and Graffiti Art to name a few.

Sadly though, times and conditions have changed. The program’s enrollments dropped in the past few years to the point that the program’s planned Fall 2013 semester had to be cancelled.

So it is with great sadness, I have to announce that the Matawan Student Enrichment Program (MSEP) has come to an end. Parents – we would like to thank you for trusting us to “enrich” your children’s lives, as much as they have enriched the lives of our staff over these last Forty-four years.

MSEP’s sincere thanks and gratitude.
