Hazlet BOE Approves Three New Principals

Board of Education made the announcement on August 1.

 

Hazlet Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Bernard F. Bragen, Jr., announced that the Board of Education approved three new principals for the 2012-2013 school year.  

“Through the diligent efforts of our Personnel Committee and Administrative Team we are excited that we are able to hire three highly-qualified candidates to fill our principal vacancies,” Bragen said in a press release.

Former assistant principal at the Hazlet Middle School, Kathleen Matsutani, will take the helm as principal of the Lillian Drive Elementary School.  Prior to beginning her tenure in Hazlet Mrs. Matsutani worked in the Brick Township Public Schools as an administrator and elementary teacher.  Matsutani received her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Georgian Court University.  

Students at Beers Street Elementary School will be greeted by new principal Joseph Krouse in September.  Krouse is approaching his fifteenth year as an educator in the New Jersey public schools.  He is a graduate of Kean University and received his Master’s Degree from Saint Peter’s College.   Before coming to Hazlet, Krouse served as the principal at Lincoln Elementary in the Edison Township Public School District.  He began his educational career in the Elizabeth Public School District, where he was a principal, assistant principal and teacher.

Finally, William Smith will assume the leadership of Raritan High School effective August 20, 2012. Born and raised in New Jersey, Smith earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English from Bucknell University and his Master’s Degree in English Literature from Drew University. He taught English and coached soccer and baseball for nine years at Point Pleasant Beach High School before heading to Red Bank Regional High School for ten years, where he taught English and served in several administrative capacities, including assistant principal and supervisor of English, media services, social studies, and ELL.  

Smith is also an adjunct instructor in the School of Education at Monmouth University.  

“We are confident that our new principals will continue to expand upon the programs offered to the children of Hazlet Township,” concluded Bragen.
