SJVHS Students Win at Local Art Show

The Annual Merit Award and Exhibition is hosted by the Art Society of Monmouth County and was open to High School seniors. The Merit Award recognizes students of outstanding ability who will be majoring in Art in a school or college of their choice in 2014. Seniors Jessica Young took 2nd Prize and Joseph Chmura took 4th prize in the exhibit.

Jessica was excited to take 2nd prize, "I took this picture while I was in Central Park in NYC. I like to take interesting pictures of detail and close-ups. I took this picture because the swirl of the vine got my attention."

Joseph took 4th prize with a photo taken of his grandfather. "The name of the photo is "Frank." “My grandfather is very old school with his artwork and I use Photoshop to paint. He has been my inspiration to pursue a career in art because of his many years painting signs for the city of Newark. I wanted to portray the peaceful nature of his working environment and how make the environment the subject and him be part of the picture."
