Saint John Vianney High School Lends a Hand in the Sand

On Thursday, October 17, 2013 fifty SJVHS students and staff participated in "Lend a Hand in the Sand" sponsored by “Sandy Castle” in Point Pleasant Beach.

“Sandy Castle 2013, Second Edition” is a second attempt by creator and sculptor Ed Jarrett, to break the Guinness World Record for the World's Tallest Sandcastle and to raise money for Hometown Heroes’, an organization that helps those in our community still suffering from Sandy.

The organization is hoping to have “Sandy Castle” completed by the anniversary of Hurricane Sandy. The sand castles will serve as a beacon to NJ that there are homeless and displaced individuals still in need of help in our community a year later.

The SJVHS trip was organized by Theology teacher, Mr. Pat Smith, “This trip was important to me because we made a difference in this project that transcends the actual Sand Castle and points that our students are concerned with the wellbeing of others who are less fortunate in our New Jersey Shore community.”

The day was met with excitement and a sense of purpose from the students and faculty at Sandy Castle. SJVHS sophomore Trinity Day, “To know that I helped potentially break a world record is an amazing experience in itself!” “It was hard work but really a lot of fun too," said sophomore Tim Fitzpatrick.
