Township Seeks Bidders for Cell Tower at Bayonet Farm

Mayor says tree-like tower could bring in up to $100,000 in revenue. The project was approved by the Township Committee last year.

A township-owned cell phone tower to be installed among a wooded section of Bayonet Farm could bring in between $50,000 and $100,000 a year, said Mayor Patrick Impreveduto.

A call for bids was published in the Asbury Park Press yesterday, nearly a year after it was approved by the Township Committee in spring, 2010.

Each telecommunications carrier that buys into the tower could pay the township $40,000 to $50,000 each, he said.

The 130-foot tower will be located far from the barns and trails, over near American Way, said the mayor. "We went to look at it last year, and we all agreed it’s a good spot for it," he said. It would be designed to look like a tree, and would blend in with the vista, he said. "Its way in the back end, mixed into the trees," he said.

A similar pole, though not designed like a tree, is behind the township's post office. Another is at Phillips Park.
