Rewind to 1992, with Former Mayor Ernest Cote

Cote refutes Alcatel-Lucent's claim that Holmdel always intended to include the 475-acre property in sewer service plan.

Former township Mayor and Councilman Ernest Cote returned to Holmdel politics Monday night to refute Alcatel-Lucent's claim that the township always intended to include the 475-Bell Labs tract in a sewer service area.

Cote appeared as one of 22 people who gave public commentary to the NJDEP against proposed changes to the county wastewater management plan which would put several undeveloped Holmdel areas, such as Alcatel-Lucent, into a sewer service area.

He said he would know what actually happened because he was mayor when the AT&T Corporation, the coporate predecessor to Alcatel-Lucent -- negotiated terms with the township and the Bayshore Regional Sewerage Authority for two pumping stations and 21,000 feet of sewer line.
