Holmdel Republicans Declare They Are Running Again; Democrats May Organize Write-In Campaign

Holmdel Democrats may present two candidates to race against two Republican incumbents in the June primary.

Two Republicans currently serving the township have officially announced their plans to run again in the Township Committee race to keep their 3-year seats on the five-member governing body.

Members Patrick Impreveduto and Rocco Pascucci filed petitions to run uncontested by their party in the June primary, according to the Township Clerk’s office. No Democrats filed.

But on Tuesday, the Democrat’s acting Municipal Chairman Tony Orsini said the party actually has two potential candidates that may enter the race as write-in candidates.

“Within a matter of days, two people have expressed a desire to run,” said Orsini, who declined to name the men, one of whom has run before. “Within the next two weeks we’ll know whether this slate is acceptable.” If approved by the members, the party will organize a write-in campaign, he said.

At the county level, two Board of Chosen Freeholder seats and a surrogate position are up for election. Republican Freeholder Lillian G. Burry, of Colts Neck, and Democratic Freeholder Amy Mallet, of Fair Haven, are seeking another three-year term. Burry’s running mate will be Gary Rick, of Spring Lake, while Mallet’s will be William Shea, of Howell. Democrat Michael Steinhorn, of Rumson, will look to unseat Republican Monmouth County Surrogate Rosemarie D. Peters.

Primary elections will take place on Tuesday, June 7, and the general election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
