Public Invited to Presentation about Lucent Redevelopment Plan
The Township Committee will explain the progress of the Lucent property re-development plan on June 15 at the Senior/Community Center.
The public is invited to attend a presentation and discussion of Lucent Property Re-Development plan on Wednesday, June 15, 2001 at 7 p.m. at the Senior/Community Center, next to Town Hall.
The five-member Township Committee will describe the current status of the Lucent property re-development project, according to a public notice posted on the bulletin board of Town Hall dated Monday, May 9.
On Thursday May 5, the Township Committee adopted a resolution to formally codify the Lucent property as in need of "rehabilitation." That action authorized the township planner to create a redevelopment plan for Lucent that would determine the parameters of future allowable use.

At that meeting, Mayor Patrick Impreveduto said there would be a public forum and a hearing on the plan.
The two million square foot former Bell Labs building has been vacant since 2008, and generates $525,000 in tax revenue, an 83% reduction since 1997. It is currently under contract-purchase by Somerset Development of Lakewood, NJ.

The developer is looking to build a small housing development, and within the confines of the existing building, develop some retail stores on the ground floor, an online college, office space, 100 condominiums, a 125-unit hotel and a surgical center.
