Former Police Barracks for Sale

Holmdel Township is looking to sell a Route 35 property it owns.

Holmdel Township is running advertisements to sell a piece of property it owns on Route 35 and Centerville Road.

The 1.6 acre island property, known as the former state police barracks, is located in the Low Impact Highway Zone. It could be considered attractive to buyers because it is located right on the highway in a vibrant commercial corridor.

But the existing one-story building has limited access and an undersized parking lot. It sits on the cloverleaf property next to Dearborn Market, and is only accesible from one ingress/egress from Centerville Road heading toward the highway and Union Avenue.

"We want to get it sold and back on the tax rolls," said Mayor Patrick Impreveduto. The township purchased the property from the state Dept. of Law and Public Safety for $640,000 in December, 2007. The township is currently speaking with an interested buyer, a veterinarian, said the mayor.

Anyone who purchases it will have to consider its usage in connection to the township's redevelopment plan, which favors uses such as civic spaces, professionals' offices, and farmers markets. High-traffic uses would not be allowed.

Impreveduto said the asking price for the property is between $725,000 to $750,000. The advertisement says Holmdel Township may provide for the payment of real estate commission up to 2.5% in compliance with regulations outlined in NJSA 40A:12-13.
