Impreveduto: Balancing Commercial Business with Open Space

Tell us in the comments: what business would you like to see come to Holmdel?

In a previously rural township like Holmdel, balancing the benefit of commercial tax ratables and the beauty of open space can be a challenge.

Mayor Patrick Impreveduto told Patch that in the last few years, the township has become more receptive to new businesses, especially along current business corridors such as Route 35.

"We're trying to create the ratables in already developed areas. The zoning and the planning boards, specifically the planning board, has become more business friendly."

Holmdel Township has purchased several properties in recent years under Open Space funds, but Impreveduto said there isn't enough tax collected on the properties to continue funding.

"It's tapping into our budget a bit," the mayor said. "But we're doing what's necessary to preserve what we had for as long as we can."
