Impreveduto Named Mayor for 2012 [Video]

Serena DiMaso will serve as 2012 Deputy Mayor.

Patrick Impreveduto will serve as the mayor of Holmdel Township, following a vote by the Township Committee at its annual reorganization on Jan. 3.

Impreveduto was sworn into office on Tuesday, along with his running mate Greg Buontempo. The two Republicans beat won the seats in the November municipal election after facing Democrats Anish Kumar and the late Brian McFarland. McFarland died on Jan. 2 after falling from a ladder at his home in Holmdel.

The shock of McFarland's tragic death and the loss of a community leader and family man was acknowledged in remarks by Impreveduto. "He was always looking to what was best for the community...He exemplified the true meaning of bi-partisanship. Brian cared about Holmdel," he said.

Township Committeeman Larry Fink, the Committee's sole Democrat, said, "He wanted to listen to all sides before rendering a decision. I might be a bit biased, but I think he would have made a great Township Committeeman."

Impreveduto was sworn into office as mayor, and DiMaso as deputy mayor -- a position she may not hold for long if she is victorious in her bid to fill a vacant spot on the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders in a special election Jan. 14 and must leave the Township Committee.

In his formal mayoral address, Impreveduto said 2012 will have its own challenges, and that he'd hold fast to the principles of "maintaining fiscal discipline and preserving the character of Holmdel."

But he also warned it may come at a cost to the taxpayer. "We have to face the reality. In order to maintain Holmdel as Holmdel, it may be preferable to pay more in order to avoid more development than we might desire." (See Video)

Impreveduto, DiMaso and Buontempo were sworn in by state Senator Joseph Kyrillos (R-13th District).

Kyrillos, of Middletown, has formed an exploratory committee to consider a run for U.S. Senate.
