Tuesday: Public Hearing on Bell Labs Building in Holmdel

Somerset Developers representatives said the project could bring Holmdel a $5 million ratable.

A public hearing regarding Bell Labs is scheduled for Tuesday in Holmdel, a month after a public meeting about the property was held.

Somerset Developers is seeking approval for a phase one, which only includes approval for the re-use of the existing building for various uses including a satellite college campus and an assisted living.

In June, representatives from Somerset Developers, Toll Brothers and Community Health Care gave 100 Holmdel residents a glimpse of what the future of the 2.1 million-square-foot building and surrounding property may hold.

New site plans include 40 single-family homes, up to 185 age-restricted homes, a public library, satellite college space, a medical center with an assisted living space, hotel, and office and retail space. Other plans for the land surrounding the center include outdoor recreation, a parking lot with 4,000 spaces and a community clubhouse with a swimming pool.

Only the building is on the Planning Board Agenda. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.
