Alcatel-Lucent Plan is on the Township Committee's Agenda Thursday
The township's redevelopment plan for the Alcatel-Lucent property is ready for introduction.
The Township Committee plans to introduce an ordinance Thursday night to adopt a redevelopment plan for the Alcatel-Lucent property. This will be the first reading of the local legislation, which can be approved on final reading at the Township Committee's next meeting on Dec. 20.
The two million square foot former Bell Labs building has been vacant since 2008, and generates $525,000 in tax revenue, an 83% reduction since 1997. It is apparently no longer under contract-purchase by Somerset Development of Lakewood, NJ. Representatives of Alcatel-Lucent said they were speaking with a developer proposing a sports facility, but the status of the deal -- if it is still viable -- is being kept private between the parties.
The meeting is open to the public. It begins at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at . There is an opportunity for comments and questions from the public.
