UPDATE: Young Hazlet Man Dies After Crashing Friend's Car in Holmdel

Det. Sgt. Louis Torres said Trejo took the car from a friend without the owner's consent.

A 22-year-old Hazlet man crashed into a utility pole in Holmdel on Tuesday night and died, according to police.

Vincent Trejo was driving on Van Schoick Road and Williams Way when his car jumped the curb and hit the pole, then a stop sign and a tree, which threw him from the Ford Mustang.

Det. Sgt. Louis Torres said Trejo took the car from a friend without the owner's consent, and lost control of the vehicle on the runway. Further investigation will include a toxicology report.

Torres said Trejo was speeding when he lost control at 11:53 p.m., totaling the car. Death was pronounced at the scene.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Sgt. Robert Philhower at (732) 946-4400 ext. 1731.
