Wallets Stolen From Unlocked Cars in Hazlet

Hazlet Police have received numerous reports of cars being broken into in recent days. In every case, the vehicle was unlocked and wallets and loose change were targeted.

Early on Thursday, June 21, residents living on East Richard St. and Carriage Road North both reported that sometime during the night someone had opened the unlocked cars and taken wallets they left in their cars. Later on that same day, the wallet belonging to the East Richard resident was found tossed on Hazlet Avenue near the intersection with Route 35. 

On Friday, June 22, an unlocked car parked outside at Hazlet Avenue and Route 35 South was entered and a GPS valued at $150, a wallet with personal identification and $20 in cash was discovered missing by the owner around 3:30 p.m. They were indicted in February. 

On Saturday, June 23, a pocketbook left in an unlocked car with windows partially opened at the Hazlet Youth Athletic League ballfields on Van Mater Terrace was reported taken by the owner around 3 p.m.

On Monday, June 25, keys and loose change was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at Central Avenue and 7th Street, in the West Keansburg section of Hazlet. It was reported to police on June 26 at 4:45 a.m.

Car burglaries recently plagued Holmdel Township too. On November 24, a homeowner returning to his neighborhood around 4 a.m. said he spotted three young people acting suspiciously in his neighborhood off Laurel Avenue, and called 911. Local police squads responded quickly and arrested the trio. On Feb. 16 the suspects, two of whom were residents of nearby Keansburg, were indicted by a grand jury on single counts of burglary, attemped burglary and conspiracy.
