Update: Holmdel Road Reopens After Truck Vs. Pole Accident

Bread truck driver was hospitalized. A section of the busy road reopened at 4 p.m. Monday.

Update: Holmdel Police say the road reopened at 4 p.m.

A delivery van hit a utility pole on a hilly section of Holmdel Road, near Dante's Way, at 4:45 a.m. Monday morning, Oct. 3. According to police, the force of the accident severed the pole in half. The truck then hit a tree head-on.

Police say the driver of the Pechters bread company delivery truck, Edwin Benitez, 23, of Perth Amboy was extricated from the truck, treated at the scene and transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center.

Benitez is in stable condition, said an employee of Pechters bread company of Harrison, NJ who wished to not be identified.

The road was temporarily closed from Crawfords Corner Road to Hillcrest Road for JCP&L and Verizon crews to do repairs to the downed pole. It reopened at 4 p.m.

Holmdel Police, Holmdel Fire Company #2, Holmdel First Aid and Rescue Squads, and MONOC paramedics rushed to the scene in the pre-dawn darkness to respond to the report of driver entrapment and live wires down.

Breaking News Network reported that a Medevac helicopter was summoned, but then cancelled, by commanders.
