Survivor of Triple-Fatal Parkway Accident Says Speeding BMW Caused Crash

The speeding car cut off the SUV transporting seven people, a survivor tells the New York Daily News.

A 25-year old survivor of the horrific July 4 Garden State Parkway Crash in Middletown told the New York Daily News that a speeding BMW is responsible for cutting off the driver and causing the crash in the pre-dawn fog.

In an interview published on the New York Daily News website, Vincent Whiteaker said he was riding in the passenger seat of the 2003 Ford Expedition driven by Dimitrios (Jimmy) Iliopoulos, 54, around 5 a.m. on July 4 when the SUV hit a guardrail, flipped twice and ejected five of the seven riders in Middletown.

"All of a sudden, I saw a black car fly past us and cut us off," Whiteaker told the Daily News Tuesday. "It must have been going 150 mph! I heard her dad [Dimitrios Iliopoulos] scream, ‘Vinny! Vinny!’ as the car started weaving back and forth. I put my hands over my head and felt the car flip."

Both front seat passengers were wearing seat belts, Whiteaker told the reporter. Of the other passengers, he said, "If they were wearing their seat belts, maybe they could have walked away," Whiteaker said. "I only have a little scratch on my leg."
